About the Opportunity
  
We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Security Engineer to join a high-performing Managed Security Services environment in Brisbane or 100% remote if other states in Australia
  
This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who thrives on designing secure, complex network environments, leading incident response, and working directly with clients to protect critical systems. You’ll play a key role in shaping security architecture, strengthening client environments, and ensuring robust, end-to-end protection.
  
Key Responsibilities
  
Firewall & Perimeter Security

• Design, implement, and manage enterprise firewall environments (Fortinet, Cisco, NGFW)
• Optimise firewall policies, NAT, and segmentation for least-privilege access
• Conduct audits to identify risks, gaps, and misconfigurations
• Manage IDS/IPS, WAF, and threat intelligence integration

Network Architecture & Design

• Lead secure network design from scoping through to delivery and documentation
• Implement segmentation strategies (VLANs, DMZs, zero trust, micro-segmentation)
• Provide input on SD-WAN, MPLS, and hybrid connectivity solutions
• Produce high-quality architecture and client documentation
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex design challenges

Incident Response

• Lead network-focused incident response engagements end-to-end
• Perform forensic analysis of traffic, logs, and security events
• Develop and maintain incident response playbooks
• Collaborate with SOC teams to accelerate containment and recovery
• Deliver clear post-incident reports with actionable insights

Client Engagement & Advisory

• Act as a trusted advisor on network security strategy and risk
• Lead client meetings and present technical recommendations
• Support growth of client security capabilities and services
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes

About You

• Strong experience in network security engineering within complex environments
• Deep expertise in firewall technologies, network design, and security controls
• Proven experience leading incident response at the network layer
• Confident in client-facing environments with strong communication skills
• Ability to balance hands-on engineering with strategic advisory

  
What We’re Looking For
  
Experience & Skills
  

• 5+ years in network security engineering, with senior-level experience across complex or multi-client environments
• Strong hands-on expertise with firewalls (Fortinet FortiGate preferred; Cisco ASA/FTD or similar also valuable)
• Solid network architecture capability — able to design and justify secure environments end-to-end
• Proven involvement in network-layer incident response
• Good understanding of enterprise networking (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, SD-WAN, QoS) and security integration
• MSSP or managed services experience highly regarded
• Familiarity with SIEM/SOAR for monitoring and triage
• Knowledge of Essential Eight, ISM, NIST CSF, ISO 27001
• Strong communication skills — both client-facing and technical reporting

  
Certifications (Preferred / In Progress)
  

• Fortinet NSE 6 or 7
• CCNP Security
