Embedded Software Team Lead – $160,000–$180,000 + Super | Permanent Full Time | Adelaide-based

You’ll be joining a high-performing and transparent team in a company that values innovation and collaboration. As the Embedded Software Team Lead, you’ll drive both hands-on development and team leadership, contributing directly to cutting-edge products while guiding a team of engineers.
What’s on offer:

• Salary: $160,000–$180,000 base + super (maximum)
• Location: Adelaide-based (Hybrid – 4 days per week in office)
• Relocation: Open to candidates willing to relocate to Adelaide
• Team: Lead a team of 5 embedded engineers
• Balance: 50% hands-on technical work, 50% leadership
• Work type: Permanent full time

Key Responsibilities:

• Embedded Software Development: Design and maintain embedded software for IoT modules and devices, with a strong focus on satellite-enabled connectivity.
• IoT Protocols: Implement and optimise communication protocols prioritising low power usage and high reliability.
• Hardware Integration: Work closely with hardware components including microcontrollers and communication modules.
• Firmware Updates: Implement secure over-the-air firmware upgrade systems.
• Testing & Validation: Ensure high-quality performance and security through comprehensive testing strategies.
• Documentation: Create and maintain technical specifications, API documents, and user manuals.
• Security: Integrate security best practices including encryption, authentication, and OS hardening into the firmware stack.
• Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with hardware engineers, cloud/network specialists, system architects, and product managers to align project goals and meet delivery timelines.

What You’ll Bring:

• A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Strong technical leadership experience
• Proficiency in C programming
• Solid experience with embedded Linux and/or microcontroller-based embedded systems
• A track record of end-to-end product development
• A proactive mindset suited to a fast-paced and innovative environment
• Ability to define and implement engineering standards and processes

Bonus Points For:

• Experience in IoT and/or wireless communication technologies
• Familiarity with IoT platforms and embedded security practices
• Contributions to open-source firmware or hardware projects
