Austin, TX | U.S. Citizens / H1B Visa Holders

Our client, a cutting-edge technology company in the connected transportation space is seeking a Principal Embedded Systems Engineer to help scale and shape the future of industrial IoT. This high-impact position offers the chance to work on complex, real-world challenges—building next-gen sensors and communication systems that operate in rugged, remote environments.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer to take full ownership of firmware architecture, contribute to strategic product direction, and influence the technical roadmap of a rapidly growing business. Whether you want to lead a team or remain a top-tier individual contributor, your expertise will directly drive innovation in an industry ripe for transformation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build robust embedded firmware for next-gen, low-power IoT devices used in freight and transportation environments
  • Develop energy-optimized solutions to support long-term deployment of battery-powered hardware
  • Integrate and fine-tune wireless protocols such as LoRa, BLE, and CAT-M1/NB-IoT for reliable data transmission
  • Create advanced filtering and signal processing techniques to maintain data integrity under industrial conditions
  • Define firmware architecture and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and product
  • Implement best practices for testing, debugging, documentation, and over-the-air updates
  • Evaluate new technologies to inform and evolve the embedded systems strategy
  • Troubleshoot system-wide issues, optimizing across both firmware and hardware interfaces
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 10+ years of embedded systems experience, with a strong background in low-power, sensor-based devices
  • Deep expertise in C/C++, ARM Cortex-M processors, and both RTOS and bare-metal environments
  • Demonstrated success deploying firmware for connected devices in real-world applications
  • Hands-on experience with LoRa, Bluetooth Low Energy, and cellular networks (especially CAT-M1/NB-IoT)
  • Proficiency in OTA firmware deployment and familiarity with Zephyr RTOS and nrfConnect SDK
  • Strong RF knowledge, including antenna design/tuning and custom mesh protocol development
  • Experience with vibration analysis and filtering in noisy environments (ideal for predictive maintenance use cases)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, resourceful mindset, and ability to own complex projects from start to finish
  • Comfortable working independently or stepping into a leadership role as the team grows
What You’ll Get
  • A $230,000–$250,000 compensation package, reflecting the high level of impact and ownership
  • Influence over the technical direction of mission-critical products
  • Hands-on experience building innovative solutions from the ground up
  • A collaborative, engineer-led culture focused on quality, creativity, and technical excellence
