As they continue to scale, they are seeking a Optimization Engineer / Senior Data Scientist to join their US Data Science team in Austin, TX. This role will focus on developing and deploying advanced optimization models for storage (BESS), trading (DART), portfolio optimization, and congestion management across US power markets.

You’ll work end-to-end – from model design and research through production deployment – collaborating closely with trading, data science, and software engineering teams to deliver real-world impact in dynamic, data-rich environments.

Responsibilities:

• Optimization Model Development: Design and implement optimization models for energy storage and renewable systems to maximize portfolio performance and integrate market dynamics across ISOs.
• Deployment & Integration: Work alongside Software Engineering and DevOps teams to deploy scalable, production-ready optimization models on modern cloud infrastructure.
• Performance Tracking & Iteration: Evaluate model performance, develop simulation and backtesting frameworks, and continuously refine algorithms to adapt to evolving market conditions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with trading, product, and project teams to guide product vision, technical roadmaps, and delivery timelines.

Requirements:

• Technical Proficiency: Strong Python development skills, with experience using numerical and optimization libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, CVXPY, Pyomo, and Gurobipy.
• Applied Optimization Experience: Hands-on experience with linear, MILP, and nonlinear optimization techniques in commercial or industrial contexts.
• Software & Infrastructure Knowledge: Experience deploying systems using AWS, Docker, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, orchestration (Airflow/Prefect), and monitoring frameworks.
• Analytical Background: BA/BSc in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or related technical discipline.
• Commercial Focus: Minimum of 3+ years of experience building and deploying optimization or ML systems into production.
• Knowledge of electricity and energy systems modeling (e.g., power flow, unit commitment, or ERCOT market dynamics).
• Experience with real-time model predictive control of physical systems such as battery storage.
• Familiarity with forecasting, time-series modeling, and ML frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, PyTorch, XGBoost).
• Experience developing dashboards or visualization tools (e.g., Dash, Plotly, Streamlit, Superset).
• Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant technical field.
